Through art, one can tap into an endless source of self-expression and boundless creativity. With that said, CIIT College of Arts and Technology proudly presented “Sinagtala: Talas ng Sining” from February 19th to 26th of this year. Held on the campus grounds, this event highlighted our dedication to acknowledging and nurturing the talents of our students. A series of exciting activities provided participants with the opportunity to acquire new skills and knowledge from industry experts while also connecting with fellow students who share similar passions.
A Week of Artistic Endeavors
The event kicked off with opening remarks by Ms. Erica Ngui, who warmly welcomed attendees and provided a glimpse into the enriching activities planned by the Arts faculty.
The highlight of the opening day was the showcase of “Ili Ili” or “The Little One,” a Graduation Thesis Film by CIITzen Clister Santos, selected for premiere at the prestigious BFI Flare: London LGBTIQ+ Film Festival. This festival, organized by the British Film Institute, is scheduled to take place from March 13 to 24 at BFI Southbank in London. This was followed by the screening of “Read-Only Memory,” a film by instructor Camille Sulit and producer David Corpuz, which won first place in the Experimental Category of the 34th Gawad Alternatibo.
The second day of the event was filled with a variety of activities. In the morning, students engaged in a two-part workshop on figure painting and nude drawing led by art instructor Joash Maramara. The initial session focused on teaching fundamental human body drawing skills, followed by a practical figure painting and nude drawing session featuring a live model for students to practice on.
The afternoon featured a series of lectures from industry professionals. It began with “The Fundamentals of Sound Recording for Documentary Films and Reality Shows,” presented by Henry Philip Tiu, and concluded with a session on “I Believe I Can Fly: How to Apply for Labs, and Pitches and Festivals,” by film instructors Josh Lomahan, Camille Sulit, and Nestor Abrogena as part of the “24 Frames: Sinelektura Day 1” talk.
The third day continued with a workshop on Basic Printmaking conducted by the Association of Pinoy Printmakers, featuring Anton Villaruel and KR Rodgers. The afternoon was divided into two talks: 24 Frames: Sinelektura Day 2 talk – Everything You Need to Know: An Intimate Discussion Between the Assistant Director and The Production Manager with Assistant Director Ian Villa and Actress Bea Leonardo-Ancero and Gestalt x Adobe: InDesign + Illustrator Hacks Every Young Creatives Should Know.
