Overview of ABM Strand in the Philippines
With the K-12 model being relatively the standard around the world, our education system finally adopted it in 2013. That year, President Benigno Aquino III signed the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 into law, or more commonly known as the K-12 program.
The K-12 model required students to undergo kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of junior high school, and two years of senior high school), before heading into higher education. Senior high school students are given the option to take one out of four specific strands to focus on:
- Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM);
- Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS);
- Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM); and
- General Academic Strand (GAS).

Among the most in-demand ABM strand jobs today, internal auditors and audit managers identify financial and business risks and assess compliance with government regulations. They evaluate existing internal controls, identify areas for improvement, and may coordinate the implementation of internal improvement efforts.
3. IT Project Manager (Average Annual Salary: ₱967,718)
Project managers lead complex, long- and short-term projects. They should be able to communicate across an organization. They plan resources, handle finances, and organize the business documents related to the project. In addition, project managers work directly with the higher management to ensure the project has a set direction for success; and that it meets this definition of success at the completion period.
4. Business/Finance Analyst (Average Annual Salary: ₱356,063)
A cross between information technology and entrepreneurship, business analytics is a fast-growing field owing to society’s shift to digitization. The job typically entails implementing various business information systems and overseeing market research to maximize a brand’s profitability.
Apart from being knowledgeable in analytical and technological tasks, promising candidates for this job also need to be effective communicators and methodical problem solvers.
