Apple has released a new version of iTunes, iTunes 9.1 which changes how certain things work. If you have upgraded to iTunes 9.1, several programs will start giving you an error that ASL.dll is missing.

This problem also occurs while trying to jailbreak iPhone using Blackra1n, when running the executable will give you an error saying that ASL.dll is missing as shown in the above screenshot.

The solution for this is simple, you will need to place the Blackra1n executables in the Apple folder under Common files in Program Files. The folder would be located in the following locations:

Source: tudocelular.com

32 Bit – C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

64 Bit – C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

Once you copy the blackra1n executable to the above folder, create a shortcut for it on the desktop and double-click it to run it as usual.

Update: If you continue having problems with Blackra1n, you can use the new Spirit tool to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3 and others.

Sometimes when you use iTunes to sync your iPhone or iPod Touch, you might get a error at the end of the sync which says that certain apps could not be synched to the phone because of an unknown error 0xE8008001 occurred because of which the apps could not be installed on the iPhone or iPod Touch.

The error occurs when you try to directly install .IPA files on your iPhone or iPod Touch and because the Mobile Installation through iTunes does not support this.

In order to get rid of this error you will first of all have to jailbreak iPhone or jailbreak iPod Touch and then install a Cydia app called AppSync, which patches the Mobile Installation files and allows you to get rid of the above error thrown by iTunes. This problem also occurs on the recently released iOS 4.

If you do not know how to install the AppSync app, take a look at how to install AppSync on iPhone and iPod Touch.

Quite recently my laptop’s backlight stopped working and I had to start using an older laptop whose HDD no longer works. I created a Live CD USB drive using Pendrive Linux’s utility for Linux Mint.

However, while booting with the pendrive I got an error saying:

SYSLINUX 3.85 2010-02-20 CBIOS Copyright (c) 1994-2010 H. Peter Anvin et al
No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!
boot:

Source: guidingtech.com

This error kept happening no matter what I did. I tried to use another USB drive to create a new bootable drive, used different flavors of Linux but had the same problem. I searched around several forums but the solution for it wasn’t easy.

However, I did find the solution and wanted to post it here so that other users who face this problem can find it easily. In order to fix this problem, you will have to plugin the USB drive into another computer and then rename the “isolinux” folder to “syslinux”. In addition to that also rename the “isolinux.bin” and “isolinux.cfg” files in the same folder to “syslinux.bin” and “syslinux.cfg” respectively and try booting with the USB drive again.

If the above solution does not fix your problem, you can try formatting your drive as FAT instead of FAT32. And by the way, I would be getting a Dell XPS Studio 1645 soon, so you can expect a review of the monster laptop soon 🙂

Recently while installing the HP Print software suite for the HP 2840 All-in-one printer, I hit a roadblock where the installer quit giving the error;

HP Installer Option Plug-in has stopped working.

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

The extended attributes are inconsistent.

After hitting ok, I was shown another error which said;

HP Installer Recovery plug-in has stopped working.

This problem was totally freaking me out, since I had to scan a document on the printer and could not accomplish the task unless the print software was installed. However after some research I was able to fix the problem and install the software and finally get the document scanned.

Solution for HP Print Software Not Installing

Though this problem is not unique and may happen with any print software supplied by HP, the cause of the problem lies in IE8. If you have IE8 beta installed on your PC, the print software runs into a conflict and gets the above error.

In order to get over the problem, you will have to uninstall IE8 beta and restart the PC before installing the software.

Once you have done the uninstall and restart, the software will install properly without any errors, hopefully this should help solve the problems for many of you who run across this problem.

If you use licensed Adobe products, you might come across an error where starting the product will show you a dialog box saying “Licensing for this product has stopped working” and in the message you will see the Error Code 148:3.

Adobe suggests that you restart your computer to fix this issue, however, numerous restarts lead to no solution. Now this might be a really annoying issue if you do not know what to do. However, the solution for this is pretty simple. In my case, I had disabled certain services on Windows which were essential to the Adobe Licensing system.

In the steps below, I will show you how to get rid of this error and also provide additional resources that might come in handy to you if this solution does now work.

How To Fix Adobe Error Code 148:3

Source: internettablettalk.com

The root cause of this problem is that the FLEXnet Licensing Service has been disabled, enabling this service should get rid of the Error Code 148:3. Here is how you can enable the FLEXnet Licensing Service on Windows XP, Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

If you are looking for a software to manage services in Windows you can try out the Services Editor or Service Manager Plus.

Step 1: Press Start > Run and type in services.mscwithout the quotes and hit the Enter key. You can also use the Windows Key + R hotkey to launch the run box.

Step 2: In the services window, find the service “FLEXnet Licensing Service”. If the Startup Type is set to Manual, you just have to start the service and try opening the Adobe application again, you don’t need to follow the rest of the steps. However, you might want to change the Startup Type to “Automatic” so that you don’t have to do this every time. You can follow the rest of the steps if you want to change it to automatically start with Windows.

If the service Startup Type is “Disabled” you will have to enable it, to do th at double-click on the service name to open the properties box.

Step 3: In the available Startup Type dropdown options select “Automatic” and click on the “Apply” button.

Step 4: Once the changes have been Applied, click on the “Start” button to start the service.

Once you are done, click on Ok and close the services manager. Try restarting the Adobe application and the licensing problem should no longer be an issue. If this trick does not work for you, you can read more options at the Adobe Knowledge Base here.

Recently a friend of mine messaged me saying that one of her friends browser is always redirecting webpages to go.google.com and go.yahoo.com, these sites do not exist in real and throw 404 errors, which led me to believe that there was something wrong with the user’s machine and it was hijacked by a virus or trojan.

Must Reads: Detailed Instructions on Protecting Your Computer from Internet Threats | Online Security Tips Keep your computer secure and safe

The malware in questions redirects all your web requests to the above said URLs, since it does not want you to download any fixes or visit sites to find what the problem is about.

The problem of webpages redirecting to go.google.com, go.yahoo.com or go.msn.com is easily fixable and you do not require to call in tech support or pay for support charges to your computer vendor, follow the simple steps to get rid of the redirect virus.

1. Disable Your Internet Connection

Source: telecomtalk.info

The most important thing you should do before doing anything else, is disabling your internet connection (If you are infected, use the print option below to print the instructions). The reason is that the virus or trojan transmits information from your PC to an external server, without a Internet connection it becomes practically useless and lowers the threat to your personal information.

2. Get Your Hands on a Anti-malware Software

Source: voi.id

The next step is to start the recovery process, so you will need to download a anti-malware software that will scan and remove the virus. Since you turned of your Internet connection (which is also useless since all webpages will redirect to the above said pages) you will need to download the software on some other PC, put it on a portable/flash drive and install it on your PC.

There are many anti-malware software’s available but we recommend Malwarebytes Anti-malware which has been reported to successfully detect and remove the infection.

3. Install Malware and Scan in Safe Mode

Once you have gotten hold of the malware software, it is time to get back to your PC and install the anti-malware, it is advisable to do this in Safe mode with Networking disabled (be sure to get the latest software copy from the website), so that the virus infection is not able to communicate with the Internet. To boot into safe mode, start the PC and press the F8 key, you will see several options, from there choose Safe Mode.

Once you have logged into the PC, install the anti-malware software.

4. Run a full scan and delete the infections

Source: onmsft.com

Once you have installed the software start the anti-malware and run a full PC scan with it, the scan may take sometime. Once the scan has completed it will detect the infections that is causing the redirect problem. Put a tick mark against all the infections and ask the software to clean it up.

Some infections will not be fully cleaned up and will require a reboot, so after the clean process is completed reboot the computer and log in to normal mode once again.

5. Run a confirmation scan to see if the infections are deleted

Source: techadvisor.com

With the internet disabled run another scan with the anti-malware just to confirm that all the infections are cleared. Once you have confirmed it you can turn on the Internet once again.

The above steps should help you solve your problem, but we also advice reading our guides on Detailed Instructions on Protecting Your Computer from Internet Threats and Online Security Tips Keep your computer secure and safe so that you can prevent such things from happening in the first place. Alternatively your hosts file could also be hijacked, so take a look at things you need to know about the Windows hosts file.

The error is annoying because it may happen even if you have paid your bill on time or there is no service disruption in your area. Fixing this problem could be tricky since there is no specific reasons on why this happens. However, if you are fed up of seeing this error on your TV screen here are some steps you should follow to fix the Comcast S0a00 error.

Before you try the solution please make sure your Comcast cable bill is paid. Yes, this error could show up if you have not paid your Comcast Bill. Also, make sure that your Comcast connection has not been disconnected for some reason.

Solution 1: Resetting your cable box.

img source: theconchtech.com

Sometimes the error may occur because of a problem with the cable box. This may happen due to several reasons, however, it is easily fixable by resetting the cable box. Follow the steps below to reset your cable box.

  • Unplug the adapter from the back of your cable box and wait for 15-30 seconds
  • Plug the adapter back in and check to see if the S0a00 error disappears
  • If the error still persists move to solution 2

Solution 2: Checking the Coaxial cable connection.

img source: allconnect.com

The problem might occur because the Coaxial cable on the wall may not be proper. You might want to follow the instructions below to try and see if it helps.

  • Turn off your Cable or HD box
  • Remove the Coaxial cable from your cable box
  • Check if the Coaxial cable on the wall is tightly fitted, if not try to unscrew the Coaxial cable on the wall and then screw it back tightly.
  • Screw the Coaxial cable back into your cable box and check to see if it fixes the issue.
  • If the problem has not fixed check Solution 3

Solution 3: Getting customer support to reset your box remotely

img source: businessandmarketingblog.com

If nothing has worked for you so far, you can still get rid of the S0a00 error without setting up a tech call. In order to do that call 1-800-COMCAST and follow the steps to report a faulty cable TV.

Explain the S0a00 error to the representative and they will try to remotely send a signal to your box to reconfigure it. Most of the time this should fix the issue.

However, if the S0a00 issue is still not fixed even after the remote signal is sent, it might be an issue with a faulty Coaxial issue or your cable line. The issue can only be resolved by setting up a Comcast representative to do a tech visit to your house. You can set that up on call with Comcast.

Please note: The solution listed above are just for informational reasons and we should not be held liable if something goes wrong while you use it.
