We equip our students with the materials and resources to elevate their learning journey, guiding them from aspiring beginners to seasoned professionals.

A prime example of our investment in advanced technology is Edusuite—a school management system designed to facilitate a seamless transition to face-to-face classes, harnessing the power of educational technology long before the pandemic hit.

What is Edusuite?

Edusuite was co-founded by Sir Neil Dagondon, a Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholar and the founder of CIIT. Supported by DOST, this project exemplifies the partnership and shared commitment between CIIT and DOST in fostering technological innovation in education.

Another key advantage of adopting Edusuite is its foundation in smart algorithms and AI. This technology significantly reduces the time required for planning, coordination, and execution while minimizing the risk of human error. Ultimately, Edusuite aims to provide schools with a well-designed system at a reasonable cost.

Recently, DOST representatives visited CIIT to evaluate its automated systems and inquire about the progress of Edusuite, which was funded by DOST PCIEERD in 2019 when it was still starting.

The visiting team included Engr. Romelen T. Tresvalles, Regional Director; Ms. Blaise D. Mansueto, Science Research Specialist II of PAMAMAZON CASTO (Pasay-Manila-Makati-QC Clustered Area Science and Technology Office); Mr. Deuvyn C. Bautista, Science Research Specialist II of PAMAMAZON CASTO; Mr. Arjay C. Rasco, Science Research Specialist II of the Information Technology and Knowledge Management Unit (ITKMU); Engr. Karen M. Melad, Science Research Specialist I of PAMAMAZON CASTO; and Engr. Jake C. Emberso, Project Technical Assistant II of PAMAMAZON CASTO.

CIIT’s commitment to technological advancement

At the foundation of our core values lie critical thinking and innovation. Through Edusuite, we get to use data, reasoning, and creativity as tools to understand our targets and achieve our objectives.

This approach also encompasses our continuous endeavors to enhance systems, optimize procedures, and develop new techniques. As a result, it improves operational effectiveness, enabling CIIT to maintain its school fees and guarantee accessible education for potential CIIT students, all the while upgrading our student body’s facilities and technology resources.

Innovating Education

As an arts and technology school, our commitment lies in delivering consistent excellence in the services and programs we offer our students. To further this mission, we are actively pursuing funding from DOST to bolster our technopreneurship initiatives. This strategic move reinforces our position as a leader in integrating technology into education and ensures that we continue to provide our students with innovative opportunities to thrive in the modern world.

The construction of the Glitch Tower stands as a symbol of our unwavering commitment to innovation. We view glitches not as hindrances but as opportunities for problem-solving and transformative thinking, thus the Glitch Tower embodies CIIT’s commitment to innovation.

CIIT Embraces Experiential Learning with a Trip to Masungi Georeserve https://www.ciit.edu.ph/news-feed/ciit-embraces-experiential-learning-with-a-trip-to-masungi-georeserve/ Mon, 13 May 2024 07:32:59 +0000 https://www.ciit.edu.ph/?post_type=news_feed&p=49457 The Science, Technology, and Society (STS) subject at CIIT College of Arts and Technology recently conducted a field trip to Masungi Georeserve in Rizal. The trip served as a crucial component of the module on environmental sustainability.

The diverse ecosystems at Masungi provided a unique learning environment for the 37 participating students, most of whom were second-year students. Beyond its scenic landscapes, Masungi serves as a testament to successful conservation efforts. The revitalized mountain area showcases the positive impact of community-driven protection and redevelopment initiatives.

The primary objective of the field trip, spearheaded by faculty members Mr. Michael Pajanil, Mr. Patrick Pineda, and Ms. Thea Garing, along with nurses Ms. Javi Gavarra and Ms. Anabelle Paulige, was to expose students to the prevailing environmental challenges faced by the Philippines. These issues include environmental degradation caused by unsustainable corporate practices, climate change, and illegal human activities.

Experiential Learning in Action

The field trip embraced the concept of experiential learning, allowing students to gain firsthand knowledge and appreciation for the environment. Instead of solely relying on textbook information and classroom lectures, the trip immersed students in the natural world. Students actively hiked trails, climbed nets, and explored various ecological zones within the reserve. This active engagement fostered a deeper connection with nature and a stronger understanding of the importance of environmental sustainability.

Adventures at Ungib ni Ruben

One of the trip’s highlights included exploring “Ungib ni Ruben” (Ruben’s Cave), named after the park ranger who discovered it. The cave provided a microcosm of biodiversity, housing a thriving bat colony and a variety of unique species. Students encountered snails the size of a grain of sand and fascinating plants that released an essential oil-like fragrance when torn.

Impact on Student Learning and Environmental Awareness

Michael Pajanil, one of the faculty members on the trip, commented on the lasting impact on the students. He stated that the students will develop a greater appreciation for nature and see firsthand how development can come at a cost, potentially impacting clean air, stunning views, and crucial ecosystems. The immersive experience is a powerful reminder of the need for respect towards nature.

Supporting Conservation Efforts

The trip also shed light on the ongoing fight to protect Masungi Georeserve. Students learned about a signature campaign aimed at safeguarding the area from development plans proposed by private corporations. The petition will be submitted to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Office of the President.

CIIT: Building Responsible Future Leaders

CIIT College of Arts and Technology extends its focus beyond technical skills development. Our institution positions itself as a catalyst for nation-building, emphasizing environmental responsibility alongside rigorous academic education. Regardless of chosen career paths, be it artists, programmers, or entrepreneurs, we as individuals have a role to play in protecting the environment, the very foundation for sustainable development and innovation.

CIIT’s trip to Masungi Georeserve exemplifies the institution’s commitment to experiential learning and environmental awareness. By participating in such initiatives, CIITzens are not only equipped with technical expertise but also empowered to become responsible changemakers.

Join us in our goal to build a more sustainable future and enroll in our bachelor’s programs.

Sharleen Sy’s Insightful Journey: Lessons on Timing, Audience Engagement, and Global Aspirations https://www.ciit.edu.ph/news-feed/sharleen-sys-insightful-journey-lessons-on-timing-audience-engagement-and-global-aspirations/ Thu, 02 May 2024 05:04:57 +0000 https://www.ciit.edu.ph/?post_type=news_feed&p=49419 CIIT is often recognized as an art school, yet its ambitions and capabilities extend far beyond. Inspired by Silicon Valley’s innovation, we aim to seamlessly blend technology in all that we do. In expanding our program offerings we always keep in mind to include a relevant tech element.

Honing the Future CIITzen

This vision for the future was strikingly exemplified by our recent session with Sharleen Sy, the CEO, CTO, and Co-Founder of Filipino tech startup Halo Halo Media. Ms. Sharleen embodies the essence of the “future CIITzen” we strive to cultivate: a creative technologist with an artistic perspective and a deep understanding of the tech industry.

An engineer by profession, she isn’t just passionate about building or problem-solving; she’s also a storyteller at heart. She believes that stories have the power to ignite a spark of ingenuity, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. This belief fuels her dream to create a platform–for Filipino creatives, one that pushes impactful narratives. As she aptly noted during her talk, a cornerstone event of our Arts Week, “You cannot innovate without creativity.”

Sharleen Sy’s Journey to Pioneering Digital Worlds

Ms. Sharleen Sy’s fascination with technological innovation began at a young age, highlighting her natural curiosity for the latest trends and her passion to delve deeper into the digital world.

Her active involvement in numerous tech projects set the stage for her remarkable career path. She was also instrumental in pioneering virtual worlds through the development of cutting-edge 3D technology designed for web use. This initiative allowed her to collaborate with industry giants such as Stan Lee, Warner Bros, Universal Studios, and more. Aside from that, she played a key role in producing games for renowned franchises, such as Pokemon 3000, Cartoon Network, and DC Comics.

Timing is everything

In her lecture, Ms. Sharlene imparted several key insights from her experiences. She discussed a previous venture she had named “Carddit,” an innovative app designed for users to share and collect photos and memes easily on their mobile devices. Despite its potential, Carddit struggled to connect with its intended audience due to poor timing. This experience taught Ms. Sharleen the importance of launching projects opportunely to ensure they effectively reach their target demographic.

Understand your demographic and what intrinsically drives them

Ms. Sharleen also shared her experiences working with Wattpad, a platform uniting a vast community of readers and writers. Through her efforts, she contributed to refining and enhancing Wattpad’s strategy to attract and engage the right audience. Her work paid off as Wattpad soared in popularity, amassing 95 million active users, with the Philippines emerging as one of its largest markets.

A crucial takeaway from her time with Wattpad was the significance of understanding the demographics and core motivations of the target audience to build a successful platform.

Turning Challenges Into Inspiration

Following her string of achievements, Ms. Sharleen opened up about a more personal challenge: she faced health issues that temporarily impeded her ability to work. However, her resilience shone through as she faced these obstacles with strength and determination.

Witnessing the success of Asian storytelling forms like manga, anime, and manhwa in Western markets, she questioned why Filipino stories couldn’t achieve the same global recognition.

Fueled by a new ambition, Ms. Sharleen set her sights on bringing Filipino talent to a global audience. This led to the creation of the “Halo Halo” app, a project designed to showcase the rich narrative of Filipino culture.

With the vision of elevating the Filipino brand on the world stage, the Halo Halo team introduced unique elements from our mythology and astrology. The app aims not just to develop a distinct Filipino identity but also to foster connections with and serve an international audience. A key mission of Halo Halo is to invest in and highlight Filipino talent, especially in storytelling.

Ms. Sharleen is convinced that the time is ripe for Filipino stories to shine globally, with the Halo Halo app serving as a vital platform for this endeavor. However, she emphasized that the success of this initiative depends on collective effort. The app serves as a foundation, but the contributions of its community will amplify its impact. Additionally, she encouraged students to contribute their ideas through the app’s Discord channel, where her team will offer valuable insights and constructive feedback.

Drawing inspiration from Ms. Sharleen’s journey, we motivate our students to embrace the dynamic fields of art and technology.

As CIIT ventures further, we aim to nurture fearless creators and innovators. Our programs do more than produce graduates; they spark a passion for pushing boundaries and creating with purpose. We want them to produce work that not only makes them proud but also leaves a positive impact on society.

Are you ready to blend the arts, technology, and business to create something groundbreaking? At CIIT, we champion the fusion of these dynamic fields to shape the innovators of tomorrow! Click here to learn more about our programs.

They stressed the importance of knowing the right people to talk to and what to discuss and also having the production schedule memorized—all key ingredients for a dedicated assistant director.

The Actor-Director Relationship: A Dialogue with 2022 Cinemalaya Special Jury Prize “Blue Room”

Keeping the momentum going, 24 Frames continued with Sinelektura’s “The Actor-Director Relationship.” Director Ma-an Asuncion Dagnalan and Actor Alex Vincent Medina explored the dynamic between a film’s guiding light, the director, and the actor who brings the characters to life. They emphasized the importance of a collaborative and trusting relationship, where both parties work together to create an impactful film.

Che Tagyamon: A Retrospective

The final day of Sinelektura offered a double dose of inspiration. “Che Tagyamon: A Retrospective” featured Director Che Tagyamon, who delved into her films in an insightful discussion. CIITzen Qianna Sanchez described the experience as “a breath of fresh air,” praising the simplicity and storytelling of Direk Che’s films.

World-Class Innovator: Sharleen Sy Elevates Filipino Tales

Ms. Sharleen Sy, CEO of the Halo Halo app, also took the stage. Ms. Sy, whose career highlights include working with Stan Lee and Warner Bros., introduced students to the app, which aims to make Filipino tales widely recognized as Japanese and Korean narratives. She motivated students, emphasizing the importance of showcasing Filipino stories on a global scale.

Learning from the Masters

By bringing together established professionals with eager students, CIIT provided a platform for invaluable learning and inspiration. The event was a reminder that the best teachers are often those who have walked the path themselves, sharing their hard-earned knowledge and passion with the next generation of creative minds.

CIIT College of Arts and Technology and Quezon City Public Library’s Collaborative Effort to Foster a Well-Read Community https://www.ciit.edu.ph/news-feed/ciit-and-quezon-city-public-librarys-collaborative-effort-to-foster-a-well-read-community/ Thu, 22 Feb 2024 04:48:49 +0000 https://www.ciit.edu.ph/?post_type=news_feed&p=48254 The popularity of platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok has streamlined media consumption like never before. However, promoting reading remains vital as it is key for individuals to fully understand and keep pace with technological advancements, shifts in the economy, and changes in social norms.

Ms. Mariza Ochico, the Officer-in-Charge of the Quezon City Public Library, champions the profound and crucial role of reading. She highlights that “Reading books holds significant societal importance, contributing to individuals’ and communities’ intellectual, social, and cultural development. Books are a rich source of information, providing knowledge on diverse subjects. Access to books facilitates continuous learning and education for individuals of all ages. A well-read community is better equipped to understand complex issues, make informed decisions, and actively participate in civic life.”

A Unique Collaboration for Reading

To foster a community that values literacy, CIIT College of Arts and Technology and Quezon City Public Library have forged a unique partnership. Both institutions share a common goal in emphasizing the significance of reading and tutoring for students, including visually impaired children.

Ms. Ochico also expressed her enthusiasm about the collaboration. She stated, “The partnership between CIIT and QCPL becomes exceptionally special and unique when the Literary Training Service (LTS) students offered to volunteer in reading tutorials, math tutorials, and the creation of audiobooks for visually impaired children. The inclusion of reading and math tutorials broadens the impact of the partnership by addressing fundamental educational needs. This comprehensive approach goes beyond literacy alone, contributing to overall academic development among children.”

Empowering the Future

At CIIT, we are committed to the principle that learning and access to resources should be equitable for all. The development of audiobooks for visually impaired children is a testament to our dedication to the holistic development of the community.

This initiative promotes not only equal access to education and literature but also a love of learning. In addition, we are also working with QCPL to achieve Educational Empowerment by helping children develop strong reading and math skills.

During an interview with Ms. Ochico, she further emphasized, “Through this partnership we hope to also instill a sense of civic responsibility and social awareness in National Service Training Program (NSTP) students, fostering a commitment to community service and contributing to societal well-being. Ultimately, the desired impact would be to create a community where education is accessible to all, where individuals are empowered to reach their full potential, and where collaborative efforts between educational institutions and public services contribute to the greater good.”

What We Can All Look Forward to

Certainly, in the digital era, it’s not enough to suggest that people should rely solely on traditional books for information. Through our joint initiative, we’re blending the appeal of technology with a more creative strategy. By leveraging various social media platforms, we can inspire people to read more, thereby making reading an exciting and fulfilling aspect of their daily lives.

During the event, students and alumni had the opportunity to ask important questions about pre-employment requirements and better understand their basic workers’ rights. One key takeaway from a student’s reflection was, “Yung takot mo yung magpapahamak sayo” – emphasizing that fear of the unknown can hinder countless opportunities. Ms. Phoebe’s wisdom empowered students with practical knowledge and the courage to confidently navigate the professional workplace.
