Of late, Facebook has been playing around a lot with their interface with improvements of fonts they use as well as the way Facebook photo albums are now displayed.

It looks like Facebook has also started to display the number of friends who have recently logged in to Facebook as spotted by Parth. In addition to that Joel also spotted another update as seen below which shows you an activity of your Facebook friends reading your posts.

From the looks of it, Facebook is trying to display some useful bits of information to users, which is probably similar to the reports it displays to “Facebook fan page” owners on engagement and reach on the fan page.

Source: lifewire.com

While this feature might not really be useful as of yet, it would be interesting if Facebook also starts displaying the friends who recently logged in along with their activities. In addition to that, it would be interesting to see if Facebook also adds a feature from the social networking site Orkut, which displays the number of people who have visited your profile.

There has been a huge craze in Facebook where users are interested in viewing their recent profile visitors and it has been a major reason behind many Facebook scams out there. It would be good if they have something official out there which does such a thing.

We’ll keep an eye on other interesting updates and post about them as soon as we see them.

Too Many Birthday Wishes On Your Facebook Wall? You know that moment. It’s your birthday, the clock gets past 12:00 a.m and your Facebook wall is ambushed by birthday messages and wall posts from friends. It feels great when 167 friends have wished you “Happy birthday” on Facebook but at the same time, it is really painful to thank each one of them.

Painful in the sense that you have many contacts on Facebook who are no more than “acquaintances”; you rarely interact with them or know them personally. Yet, they wish you on your birthday and not acknowledging their post with a “Thank you” message is loutish and may be considered as ill mannered.

These days, Facebook is a really big issue with lot of netizens. Things like not replying to a comment, not responding to an instant message or not interacting for a long time is considered “avoidance”. This behavior affects relationships, especially if both players are equally savvy about Facebook.

One way to get over this situation is to publish a wall post e.g “Thanks everyone for wishing me happy birthday”. I’ve seen some of my Facebook friends do this but you know what? This ain’t funny and it proves that you’re too lazy not to respond to each birthday wall post personally.

Source: mfidie.com

However, here is a little hack which you can use to automatically reply to birthday wall posts on Facebook with your own custom “Thank you” message. Your friends, (who have wished you “Happy birthday” on Facebook) will have no clue that your reply was posted automatically. I know this sounds cheap but if you want to get over the formal mannerism and save yourself from the control v frustration, this is perfect.

First, go to the Say Thank you app page on Facebook and grant the application all the required permissions.

Once you’re through, the app will automatically scan your birthday date and year from your Facebook profile. Verify the details and proceed to the next step.

Now you will be asked how you want to thank your Facebook friends when they post a “Happy birthday” message on your timeline (wall). You can choose any of the following options:

  • Comment: The app will post a comment on the “Happy birthday” wall post on your behalf.
  • Comment and like: The app will like the wall post and post a comment on your behalf.
  • Like: The app will like all the birthday wall posts o your Facebook profile.
  • Wall post: The app will reply with a counter wall post on your behalf.

All set? Hit next and done!

Source: searchenginejournal.com

This is important. The app will find all the old wall posts on your Facebook wall and post a comment on your behalf. This might start a chain of likes, counter likes and comments so use this app only when you’ve not responded to a birthday wall post.

For example: my birthday was on 14th last month, I used this app today and here is what happened.

Fun, right? Hard to believe we are entering an age where people post automatic birthday wishes and there is also an app to automatically reply to those wishes. Did I mentioned that you can post to Facebook from your grave?

If you ask me, I prefer to reply each friend personally no matter how much time it takes. But maybe, that’s just me.

I have been using Facebook for the past few years now, and one thing I have noticed is that a relationship status change on Facebook generates a lot of likes and comments. While it is impossible to keep an eye on the relationship status of each and every friend of ours in real life, Facebook does provide a easier way to do it.

However, most of the times, you might not know what the relationship status of a friend is unless they update it or you look at their profile. If you have hundreds of friends, that could be a lot of work. Well that was until a new app came through.

Source: dailydot.com

RelationBook is a new Facebook app which will tell you “who’s in a relationship” and who is not by looking at your friends profiles. The app sorts out your friends into various relationship status Facebook allows a user to set, thus allowing you to browse their profiles by clicking on links on the left side. RelationBook also allows you to search for friends using their name and filter their profiles by their gender.

Overall, RelationBook is a nice app which allows you to find out your friends’ relationship. However, it could add some more features like telling you when someone changed their relationship recently.

Facebook has been notorious of late with lots of Facebook Scam doing the rounds of the social networking site. Staying away from those Facebook Spam is not easy, however, we have instructions on how you can stay safe on How to Identify and Avoid Facebook Scams and also about removing apps from Facebook and Avoiding Facebook Lifejacking and Clickjacking scams.

We recently received a question asking about a new executable called FacebookUpdate.exe running on a Windows PC and whether it was a virus or not? Turns out that it is not a virus and is an official software from Facebook which is used to update the software which is locally installed on a Windows PC.

Quite recently Facebook introduced a new group chat and video calling along with Group video chat with social hangouts. Facebook asked users to download a software to their local PC in order to use the video calling feature in Facebook.

If you have downloaded the said software from Facebook, you will notice that a file called FacebookUpdate.exe is added to the startup on your Windows PC. The location of the file is in your user profile folder and runs with some parameters as shown below

%USERPROFILE%\Local\Facebook\Update\FacebookUpdate.exe /c /nocrashserver

This service is totally safe and is only used to update the software which was installed by Facebook. If you feel threatened by it, you can disable it without problems. If you are not sure how to disable services or startup items, read our earlier guides and articles.

Although the social media giant Facebook has taken measures to eradicate spam and hoax messages from its site, spam messages are continuing to galore as may users are falling for tricks set by hackers and spammers in an aim to steal user information.

Today, I noticed yet another scam message spreading across Facebook. The new scam tricks users into installing a rogue Facebook application, promising them to show the list of users who viewed their profile.

Although this particular scam has been reported earlier a several times, with users being warned not to click on such messages, yet users continue clicking it and install the Facebook app. The new variant is very much similar to previous scam messages, and attempts to steal personal information from tricked Facebook users.

Did you know? 14 million Facebook Accounts are used to spread spam messages.

Source: smartphones.gadgethacks.com

The new scam is spreading with the title Facebook Profile Viewer containing the following messages:

Yes! I can’t believe that you can see who is viewing your profile! I just saw my top profile viewers and I am SHOCKED from who are viewing my profile! You can also see WHO VIEWED YOUR PROFILE

WOW I just saw my top 10 profile VIEWERS. You can now see who’s been stalking at your profile for real! You can easily check who’s spying on you at [link]

My total profile views today:

Male Viewers: 31
Female Viewers: 64
See your total views and who is viewing you here

Clicking the scam will take you to the Facebook app installation page, where you are asked to grant permissions to the rogue app to post updates on your behalf and also access your information on Facebook. Providing access will put your Facebook account at high risk as scammers might try to hack it and steal all your information.

The app looks like just any other Facebook app and will ask for your permissions before taking you to a page where they will ask you to complete a survey before you can see “Who’s viewing your Facebook Profile”. However, once you complete the survey it will only make money for the scammers and not show you the information you are looking for.

Here is a list of previously reported similar scam messages spreading on Facebook:

Facebook states that, “Sometimes when we do maintenance on the site, certain photos or albums temporarily disappear. If you’re missing photos, please wait for a few hours to see if they reappear.” However, if you continue to see the blank boxes, you can report it to Facebook using this link.

There seems to be some sort of bug on Facebook where users are complaining that some of their photos in their albums have gone missing. Users are stating that the photos are replaced with blank boxes, although there is no error displayed.

Source: designparc.com

The exact cause of this issue is not known, but we think that it is a bug, or there could be some technical problems with Facebook servers. However, if you’re one among many who are facing this issue, there’s a temporary solution for this. You simply need to turn off the “Secure Browsing” feature, and your photos should be back again. This is a temporary solution, and many users have confirmed that it is working and their photos are visible now.

To disable Secure Browsing, navigate to your Account Settings and select the Security Tab on the left sidebar. From the first option, disable Secure Browsing. Try reloading your album page and see if the solution is working or not.

If the above solution isn’t working, then you will have to wait until the issue is fixed. Facebook is aware of this issue and is probably looking into it.

After Google integrated the “translate” feature into its social network, which allows users to translate posts and comments into 50 different languages, Facebook, as usual has followed the footprints of Google+, and quietly announced the launch of “translate” button – powered by Microsoft’s Bing.

The new in-line translation feature allows users to quickly translate content or comments on pages using Bing Translate. Prior to the launch of this feature, most users on Facebook relied on third-party services like Google Translate to help them understand and communicate with users who speak other launches. The translate feature on Facebook will now eliminate the pain to go to Google Translate, and users will be able to translate a comment or page by simply clicking the translate button, which is placed next to the ever-popular “Like” button.

Source: time.com

When a user translates comments by clicking the “Translate” button, an “Original” button appears in place of the Translate button, which allows users to switch back to the original language.

However, it is still unclear as to how many languages the translator supports. So far, it is known that it supports English, Spanish, French, Hebrew and Chinese language. And the button only appears for users with their language set to English, Korean, Japanese, Russian, Taiwanese and Chinese-Hong Kong.

How to Activate Translate on Facebook

Source: howtogeek.com

1. Click on Account on the top right hand side of your page and  select    Use Facebook  as a Page.

2. Click on Edit Page on the top right hand side of your page.

3. Click on Your Settings on the left side of the page.  You’ll have four choices to pick from:

  • Admin, community, and machine translators
  • Community and machine translators (default)
  • Machine translators
  • None
Source: guidingtech.com

However, at times the translator displays an error message – “There is no translation available for this story at the moment, whenever a language is not supported. As Facebook mentioned, users will have the opportunity to add their own translation for a post or comment by opting-in to using in-line translation. Once the user has provided the translation and if the translation receives enough positive votes from other users, then the translator will replace it with the Bing translation and the same will appear each time someone clicks the Translate button for that specific post.
