Motorola has started rolling out a software update for the Atrix 4G. The software update version is 4.1.57 and weighs 17MB in size.

The first ever software update for the Atrix 4G will bring with it a host of performance improvements and bug fixes.

The software update will improve the multimedia experience of the Atrix 4G with Bluetooth accessories and improve compatibility with additional Bluetooth headsets. The performance of the Car Dock application along with the Fingerprint reader at the back of the phone has also been improved.

The display of the handset will also turn off when plugged into the charger. Motorola also states that the battery life of the phone will be improved after installing this software update. The general stability and performance of the Atrix 4G will also improve after the software update.

Sadly, the software update won’t enable HSUPA on the Atrix 4G. AT&T has apparently disabled HSUPA on the Atrix 4G and the Inspire 4G, frustrating its users with very slow upload speeds.

The company has promised to release a software update sometime in the future, which will enable higher upload speeds on the handset.

Most of the times any Windows update you apply to your computer requires you to restart your PC. I definitely get quite fed up with the frequent nags to restart the PC. Previously I had written a tip on how to disable restarts after Windows update.

However, if you want to do it the easy way, Postpone Restart is a handy utility, which can postpone restarts after a Windows update has finished. Postpone restart is a small tool but can be useful for those nagging times.

Postpone restarts works with Windows Vista and , there is no support for Windows XP yet.

It was in late January that we reported about the original Motorola Droid Android 2.2.2 update is under testing from Motorola. Today, Droid-Life is reporting that Motorola and Verizon are done with all their tests, and will be releasing the OTA update to Droid owners today itself.

The FRG83G OTA update will update the Droid Android OS version to 2.2.2. The Android 2.2.2 was released by Google so as to fix the famous ‘SMS’ bug.

Here is the official change-log from the big Red itself:

* Sporadic issues with unintended recipient list corrected for text, audio, picture, video and audio multimedia messages.

* Correct message populates when messaging application is quickly opened and accessed.

It is more or less certain that the Droid won’t get the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update. However, it is nice to see Motorola still releasing minor Android OS update a handset which is more than a year old now.

The Droid is the first handset in the market to get the Android 2.2.2 update, excluding the Nexus One. Other manufactures should learn from Motorola and release the Android 2.2.2 update for all their Android handsets.

The FRG83G update for the Droid weighs in at 3.4MB, and will be pushed to all Droid handsets beginning from today.

Google Plus has been making waves ever since it was announced. Within just two weeks, it has managed to amass millions of users, and millions more are desperate to get in. The biggest strength of Google Plus is its engagement factor. Google has finally made a social product that’s genuinely fun and addictive to use. As a result, we are seeing people like Kelvin Rose ditch their blogs in favor of Google+.

If you are one of those folks who are already hooked, and you are from India, then there is some good news for you. Now you can update your Google Plus status, on the go, via SMS. All you need to do is send an SMS to 9222222222 with your message text.

You can even specify post visibility while updating via SMS. Here are the modifiers you can use:

Source: geekweek.interia.pl
  • @[circle name] – To share your update with selected circles.
  • @extended – To share your post with your extended circles.
  • @public – To make your update visible to everyone (including search engines).
  • @[email address] – To share your update with a particular person.

If you don’t specify anything, your post will be shared with everyone in your circles.

It’s slightly odd that this feature is currently available only in India. Normally, the focus during early field testing is strictly on US residents. However, Indians might also represent the ideal demographic for this feature. India is a country where mobile phone penetration is very high, but smartphone penetration is low. Additionally, SMS is dirt cheap. The Indian masses will almost certainly appreciate this feature. But, the question is, how many of the masses are using Google Plus? In these early days, it’s mainly tech and social media enthusiasts who are dominating the social graph.
