Visual Trends: What’s Hot and What’s Not in 2018

As 2017 ends, we also say bye to millennial pink, greenery, and authentic branding that ruled the  year’s artworks. In reaching the first quarter’s half, let’s look at more key 2018 visual trends that may rule in the creative field. Thus, check here what’s hot and what’s not in this year’s design and creative trade.

2018 Visual Trends to Watch Out

CIIT Philippines, a digital arts school, collected the most expected trends from leading design experts. These can, in fact, inspire digital artists and digital arts students as they cope with the latest styles in the creative field. From photography and graphic design to color, logo, and branding, here are the visual trends to watch out for this 2018.

Color Trends 2018: Ultra Violet and Other Shades of Purple

Pantone, a world-renowned authority on color, has chosen 18-3838 ultra violet as the color of the year. Following 2017’s greenery, the firm states this blue-based purple “communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.”

In a DigitalArts blog, Stephanie Sharlow, design expert and EIC of DesignRush predicts that we’ll see a resurgence in bright colors, illustrations, and personalities in design forms. After investing in neutral colors, comforting hygge-like trends and minimalist designs, this bright hue will take on a larger stance. Hence, Sharlow expects this color trend will show in web design and advertising forms in the years to come.

Branding and Logo Trends 2018: Fantasy and Simplicity

In the same Digital Arts blog, Connie Birdsall from Lippincott expects the “fantasy theme” to continue to be in the branding trends 2018 choices. These include using vivid colors, escapism from reality, and expressive and bespoke hand lettering and typography to match. As for logo trends, “simple line work and slick vector shapes” will continue rather to be in demand.

Photography Trends 2018: Fusion of Reality and Creativity

Adobe predicts “creative reality” to be a growing trend that blends real life scenes with hints of fantasy. “We’re seeing idealized, alternate worlds—they’re lush, tropical, almost utopic. There’s a reverence for the natural world, but with an intensity, an almost psychedelic twist,” says Brenda Milis, Adobe’s principal of creative services and visual trends.

Graphic Design Trends 2018: The Year of Double

 double exposure duotone

GraphicMama dubs 2018 as the year of “double” in graphic design. From then famed double exposure method, you can expect a more artsy hybrid with double exposure duotone and double light trends. In the same way, with their “ahead-of-its-time” effect, these trends can transform simple artworks into new edgy, modern looking pieces.
