Finding one’s self in CIIT: Victor Joson’s Journey to CIIT

I am Victor Jaime M. Joson, a seventeen-year-old Senior High School from CIIT Senior High School studying Animation. I am now in Grade 11.

Some of you might be asking why I chose Animation. Well, there are many reasons why I chose to study animation and arts, but (the three) primary reasons are my passion, my dream, and my ideals.

The truth is, growing up, I really didn’t know what I wanted. All I did was watch cartoons, eat, and sleep. As the years passed I started to realize that I want to do something, for myself, my country, and for the children of the future. It dawned upon me that I want to impact the world in any way possible. I don’t want my name (to appear) in books or screens. I simply wanted to create a  renaissance in the world—A change or rebirth that will change the world for the better. That’s something I want to march towards!

My journey in animation started with my love of cartoons, anime, or anything animated. For me, animation is a really strong medium for telling stories and bringing to life a world that is so different from ours. Animation can be powerful with eye-catching visuals. So, watching those animations sparked so much interest in me as a child until I’m hooked and couldn’t stop watching them anymore.

When I was in Junior High School, I animated a small scene in a short film that my section presented to the whole school. The feedback that I got from my batch mates was so positive that it made me want to work even harder.

I further pursued my passion for Animation and did my own research on art schools. CIIT Senior High School was the first school I found and thought to myself that the school looks nice. However, it wasn’t until I took the entrance exam when I decided that CIIT is my school of choice. When I visited the school, the environment and faculty felt so welcoming. The facility where I took the examination also looks modernized which truly embodies its personality as an “art school”. Despite doing little research on schools, I’m still thankful that it still led me to the school where I feel like I became much more of myself.

The most remarkable experience as a CIIT student is the community itself. Compared to my previous schools, CIIT  is a chef’s kiss. It feels like I’m friends with everyone and all the people are so easy to talk to. I don’t usually talk to everyone but the community isn’t the type of people to shy away from the conversation once you reached out to them. The teachers here are also the nicest (in my opinion) and they are like parents to all of us. They are supportive and understanding about our situation and I am so thankful for them. The highlight of this school is its community. They are so open, accepting, and wholesome. My batch here in CIIT is also the most remarkable experience I’ve ever had!
