Philippines’ Top Software Engineering School: Why Be Certified?

Merely graduating from a famous software engineering school in the Philippines will not secure you a job. As thousands of applicants compete for limited jobs today, you need to make yourself stand out and boost your chances by getting certifications.

Even though most firms do not ask for such documents, having one will look good on your resume. They can help you stay abreast with the latest technologies and lift your chances of getting salary increases and promotions in the future.

Various groups and firms offer certificates in software engineering (SE). Here are just a few examples:

IEEE’s Certified Software Development Associate (CSDA)

CSDA is for entry-level or graduating SEs. You can take this up when you’re in the final year of a bachelor’s program. You may or may not have work experience before getting this certification.

If you pass the exam, you’ll receive a score report. If you fail, you’ll receive your scaled score along with an analytic info that can help you pass your next retake. You may not recertify to keep your CSDA record. But you can choose to go on for a more advanced CSDP certificate when you become eligible.

EEE’s Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP)

CSDP is a step up from CSDA. To take certifying exams, you’ll need at least one education prerequisite and at least one experience requirement. The level of experience required depends on your educational level. If you have an advanced degree in SE, two years of experience will do. Else, you’ll need four years of experience in SE or software development.

You can meet the educational requirement in various ways: get a bachelor’s degree or become a CSDA. There are two testing windows, one begins in May and ends in June. The other begins in November and ends in December. As a CSDP, you’ll need to recertify every three years.

Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD)

Being an MCPD means you are adept in Windows, ASP.NET, Azure, Web, or Enterprise App using either the 2008 or the 2010 Visual Studio platform. You must gain 2-3 years’ experience working with specific MS development product and pass the exam to become certified. You must do well, too, in the prerequisite exams, including Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) exams, to obtain MCPD cert.
